Remember Adam Yauch! Come and celebrate his life and music!
Wear your favorite Beastie Boys shirt, and reminisce with lots of other New Yorkers who have wonderful stories about how MCA and the other Boys influenced their lives, our lives, our city!
I was just writing a post about Dharma Punx (a book by a fellow in California who went from baddie to Buddhist to the soundtrack of Suburbia [my blurb: a piece of art if I do say so myself] and The Decline of Western Civilization) and the difference between the West Coast and East Coast punk/hardcore scene.
In my post I mentioned how I would have loved to discuss this book with Adam Yauch (MCA of the Beastie Boys), because he would have been the perfect person to elaborate on the dichotomy between the two coasts' scenes, especially with his membership in both the punk/hardcore and Buddhist communities.
What's that, I hear you say? "MCA was a rapper, not a punk! Boy, are you musically confused!"
Let me lay a little punk rock knowledge on you folks: before the Beasties ever received their License To Ill, they indulged in some hardcore hijinks.

Oh yeah, and I entirely forgot a third thing I had in common with Adam: we both played bass guitar!
Tomorrow is MCA Day at Union Square. From 11 AM on, people are gonna be hanging out on the steps shouting along with Beastie raps and reminiscing along with friends who have memories of going to live shows or hanging out or going to school with MCA, Ad-Rock, Mike D, or just being fans of the music.
The New York State Senate passed a Resolution to mourn Adam's death; between this and MCA Day, NYC shows fitting tribute to an incredible soul. And yeah, he started off as a little punk (rock) kid.
